Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) first impressions: Mid range device with a premium build quality

Samsung has been gearing up for the release of its devices this year. And on the path, it looks like it has got all the sectors of smartphones covered. With the Samsung Galaxy S7 covering the high-end flagship devices and the Galaxy J2 covering the budget smartphones market, now the company is releasing their new mid-range device – Galaxy A5 (2017). The A series of Samsung have received quite a good response from all over the globe. The A series mobiles look and feel a lot like the S series devices. But the best part of this is that they are not priced so high. The Galaxy A5 is priced at Rs. 28,990.

This price bracket has quite a competition from Honor 8 and Oneplus 3T, both of them are good devices.

Display and Design

The back of the device is made of glass and gives out a glossy look. While the sides are made out of pure aluminum. The bezel on the A5 is very slim which makes it comfortable in the hand. Talking about the display the device comes with a  5.2-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080p) Super AMOLED display. The device also has a fingerprint scanner placed inside the home button. The Galaxy A5 also has the Always On Features which display Clock and calendar details.

Water Resistance

The Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) edition device comes with IP68 certification (dust and water resistant), just like the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. Most of the devices in this price range do not have this feature.

Camera

The Galaxy A5 sports a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera, with  f/1.9 aperture, and optical image stabilization. Talking about the front camera, it is pretty much the same as the rear camera – the front facing camera also has a 16MP camera with f/1.9 aperture. This makes the A5 great for both selfies and rear camera photography.

Hardware

Inside the hood, the device is powered by an Exynos 7880 processor and comes with a 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal memory with a microSD card slot. The Galaxy A5 (2017) comes with  3,000mAh battery with fast charging support, but as of now, there are not statements on the standby time of the device. A5 also supports all the basic connectivity options. The port on this device is a USB- Type C port. Out of the box, the device comes with the Android Marshmallow 6.0 and is expected to get an update from Samsung soon to Android Nougat 7.0.
