Finally, the wait is over popular instant messaging service has released their new feature WhatsApp pay and it is available across India for android and iOS users. WhatsApp has testing their payment feature so they launched their beta model for selected Android and iOS Smartphones. This version supports payments to a number of Indian banks including State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank, and Axis Bank. WhatsApp Pay feature is used receive money directly to your bank account. This feature is only available in India and all the transaction will be done via UPI(Unified Payments Interface).
UPI is a payment method where we have to link our bank account and will have a separate UPI pin to generate the transaction. For payments in the list of attachments, a shortcut of payments is seen alongside Documents, Gallery, Audio, Location, and Contact. After taping on payments user has to feed the PIN number and the receiver’s UPI ID or linked phone number. UPI transaction will directly transfer the amount to receiver bank account.

Update to the latest version:
First, we have to update our WhatsApp to the latest version for WhatsApp payment feature because it running on latest version android v2.18.41 and for iPhone v2.18.22. After updating open any WhatsApp chat in settings you can find Payments sub-head under settings. Now you have access to WhatsApp’s UPI-based payment feature.
How to add Bank account:
Follow this simple steps and get started with the payment feature.
Go to ‘Settings’ and then click on ‘Payments’
> Add your bank account and fill in your bank details on the Payments page.
>Verify your phone number via SMS. You’ll also be asked to feed in your phone number linked to your bank account.
>After this, list of Banks linked with UPI. If you are a UPI user, then you’ll be required to select that bank account and in case you do not use UPI, you will be required to set it up.
>After setting up the UPI, you will need to enter the last six digits of your debit card number and the expiry date to create a Virtual Payee Address (VPA).
Multiple bank accounts can be added to whatsapp by repeating the above steps.
Here’s how to send your first payment via WhatsApp:
For Android users, tap on the attach button and click on the option ‘Payment’. For iOS, tap on the plus sign and look for the Payment option.
The payment option will be available on individual chat screens. Sending money to specific users on a group chat forum is also possible.
After tapping on the payments option, you need to enter the amount, put in your UPI PIN and accept to send the payment to the receiver.
For successful transaction receiver should also require having the WhatsApp Pay feature for the payment to be successful. If the receiver does not have the feature, it will not work.
All our transactions of money sent and money received –using payment feature can be checked by clicking on settings and then tapping on payments and finally select view history option.
